Jose Mariscal, the Training & Outreach Coordinator of IACP’s Alzheimer’s Initiatives program, wanted me to to send you information about the upcoming no-cost training opportunity: Responding to Alzheimer’s Disease: Techniques for Law Enforcement and First Responders on April 29th or 30th, 2014 in Madison, WI.  This training is appropriate for law enforcement, first responders and mental health professionals that work directly with first responders.

This topic complements the training that CIT offers with additional information about this special population and we have had a great response from CIT trained officers who have attended other sessions in the past. This training is dedicated to providing law enforcement officers, supervisors and executives, firefighters, EMS, and others from the first responder community with the most current Alzheimer’s and dementia training available. •         Identify the different situations first responders might encounter persons with Alzheimer’s disease
•         Distinguish symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease from other conditions
•         Learn techniques to effectively question and interview a person with Alzheimer’s disease
•         Communicate and collaborate with caregivers
•         Engage community resources
•         Establish protocols for search-and-rescue specific to this population
