Cynthia genuinely cares about the patients she encounters, and is always trying to do what is best for them, and continues to improve herself through her EMS career. She grew up in the Elkader, IA area and graduated from Central high school. She went on to UNI in Cedar Falls, IA where she worked to receive her Bachelor's Degree in Biology Ecological and Systematics with minors in German and Natural History and Interpretation.
Cynthia married Nick Torkelson in September of 2014. They are currently living in Monona, IA with their son Andrew and another baby on the way due in December. Cynthia started her career in EMS as an EMR on the Monona Volunteer Ambulance service in 2015 where she served 8 years. She later became an EMT and then a Paramedic in 2020.
Cynthia states this was a challenging, but rewarding experience that showed her she really can achieve anything "your only limitation is your imagination." Cynthia and her husband both began working for Gundersen Health System Ambulance in Prairie du Chien. While being a part of the Gundersen team she has immersed herself in this new EMS community and being involved in new experiences, opportunities, and challenges. Cynthia looks forward in continuing her career in healthcare and would like to thank everyone for this honor.
Congratulations, Cynthia!
