BJ Van Engen has been in EMS and with Bell Ambulance for 20 years. In 2004, he started as an EMT and has worked his way to Critical Care Paramedic. BJ is a Shift Supervisor at Bell Ambulance, and the thrives in this role. Whether it’s dealing with difficult scenes, employee issues, or tackling projects, BJ is a shining example of a professional EMS leader. In 2023, BJ was instrumental in the opening of Bell Ambulance’s Racine station. He helped design the living quarters with the employees in mind and helped to create a relaxing and convenient atmosphere.

Each year BJ maintains perfect, or nearly perfect attendance, his uniforms look sharp, and he holds himself and all those around him to high standards. Every shift, BJ works independently, coming to work and attacking any task or assignment that he is given. He does many things without being asked and doesn’t seek out validation for the job that he does efficiently. Any service would be lucky to have a leader like BJ! Because of these reasons, he has been nominated to be a 2024 PAAW Star of Life!

Congratulations from the Professional Ambulance Association of Wisconsin on receiving the 2024 WI Star of Life Award!
